As a world-class resort town, Puerto Vallarta satisfies those visitors looking the perfect relaxing holiday by the sea. Another favorite spot for visitors is the newly renovated Malecón, (seaside promenade) an oceanfront boardwalk bustling with the activity of street performers, restaurants and stylish shops.

In the downtown area (which is actually older than the Old Town) history buffs will find some interesting architecture including the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the Los Arcos Amphitheater and the Town Hall (Presidencia) as well sculptures and art exhibits in the main square.

​When in the mood to escape the crowds, the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta promote an easy-going small town feel. In the Sierra Mountains, located directly behind the resort town, locals still live in a natural environment much in the same way they did a century ago; simple, friendly and uncomplicated. A lovely fishing village to the east is called El Chimo and boasts some of the loveliest beaches around. On the North side, Sayulita is known for its excellent surfing conditions and even features a school for female surfers.​​
